Petit Pinceau

An original gift for a 3-year-old's birthday

Designed in France*

At 3, a child recognises the people close to them and can hold a crayon. But standard colouring books still feel beyond reach: too much detail, too many strangers. An album where parents, grandparents and cousins appear as big simple shapes lands right at this age. It's also the age when colouring becomes a real gesture, not just scribbling.

A few examples that work for this case

  • Simple portrait of a parent and a 3-year-old, drawn with large shapes

At 3, big simple shapes matter more than anything else. Here's what that looks like.

  • The family pet (cat, dog) turned into a coloring page for a young child

The family pet, the first page 3-year-olds want to colour.

Our tip for a 3-year-old

Go for frontal portraits and simple scenes (one parent, one child, one object). Avoid crowded group photos: they produce lines that are too fine for a 3-year-old's hand. The 6-photo format is ideal. A 24-photo book will put them off.

Recommended format

12-page book, €34.99

At 3, concentration lasts 5 to 10 minutes. 6 photos means several sessions, not a mountain.

How we make your book

Designed in France, printed on demand by a European partner. Square 21.6 cm format, 90 g/m² uncoated inner paper that holds pencils and water-based markers well, hardcover on the 12 and 24-photo formats (stapled on the 6-photo format).

Frequently asked questions

Are markers OK for a 3-year-old?

Yes. Our thick paper absorbs standard water-based markers without bleeding through. Avoid alcohol-based markers at this age.

Can we plan one for their 4th birthday next year?

Yes. Many parents take a new album every year from age 3 onwards. The child compares them and sees their own colouring improve.
